I'm supprised no has picked up on this before.
As a follower of Running Forums, Starting line, Mid packers and Training tales, I have noticed that all of you (an occasional exception) do your aerobic work, as in running, cycling, rowing etc. and finish off with weights.

The correct order after a warm-up should be the weight training part of your program moving on to your aerobic work.

I know most of you are not trying out for the Olympic Games but we are all looking for improvement at our individual level, so, I suggest to make your training session more effective:- WARM-UP...WEIGHTS... AEROBIC.

Alan Webb lifts after running, so it can't be all bad.

I don't have a regular lifting schedule, but I sometimes do pullups after my runs. What I notice is that I can do more pullups after I run as opposed to before. I suppose it's the adrenaline or endorphins or whatnot, but wouldn't that apply to all types of weights as well? Wouldn't the benefits of being able to do more counteract the "less effective" progression?

When I did both, I did them seperately on different days, or if I ran in the morning I lifted at night, or vice versa. Just a personal preference.

Me too.

I'm trying to lose weight. What is the best way for me to go about doing it?

Run more, post less Razz

Seriously, I found the combo of cardio and weight was a good compliment to the other. Built up muscle and burned fat.

I thing generally competetive runners usually focus more on running than weights and it would seem you get better results running first. I'm in no way competetive but find it more difficult to get a good run in after a hard session in the weight room cuz I'm tired then. I have done some light sessions in the weight room then ran though. I think switching it around sometimes is good too. OK, that made no sense at all. Confused

At least when my shins work. Lately it's been only weights and no running.

My running suffers greatly when I lift first. I've tried both ways and the run first, lift second method works best for me.

I tried 25 minutes of lifting and 25 minutes of running today and I really felt a difference (a bad one) in my running. Of course, I think I'm getting sick so it's hard to tell.

He had a cameo appearance in a book called Sub 4. In that book, they described him lifting weights after practice (aka running).

Did you see him do this often? It is possible he has changed his routine. It is also possible that he was actually lifting in between runs. He's an animal with the weights, so he probably lifts whenever he feels like it.

But at one point, it was documented that he hit the weights after his run.

This is a stupid discussion.

What's the point of lifting before? Why is that the "proper" way? What would be the goal for doing that? Is this a thing about fitness running or performance running? The suspense is killing me.
