We had a wicked storm blow in this afternoon. The power's been out for hours. It came in so fast I almost went for the basement, and storms don't usually scare me. My mom said she did go to her basement. The wind was unbelievable, never seen anything like it in person. Then it blew out as quickly as it blew in.

Well no wonder I saw your part of the map covered with reports of tornados, hail, and wind damage. Glad you made it out alive.

A friend who lives just north of Memphis got herded to the center of a Wal-Mart because of a tornado threat.

It was pretty scary for a bit here, too. JM lives about 35 minutes to the west of us, and while we were on the phone at 8ish, his power flickered 4 times and then his town's tornado siren went off, so I spent about 30 minutes wondering WTF was going on there until he could call again. Then, our tornado watch turned into a tornado warning and of course my boys were flipping out, and Libby's like, ... weird kid!
But, like with Achey, ours blew through pretty quickly, and we're none the worse for wear. Still high winds today (but not like 50-70mph like last night), and I'm hoping the drive later this morning to Indy won't be too bad. I hate driving in the wind!
A few schools in the surrounding areas are on a 2-hour delay, and our preschool at the college is closed (no idea why, except that perhaps some of the ladies live in the outlying areas and may have issues).
Hope all of our riff raffers are ok.

For me, the storms were in Indy and we were already in a Tornado Warning. (I live 50 miles from Indy). They were just moving that fast.
We didn't have damage here, but some businesses in Indy are closed due to blown out windows.
Friday night's storm was worse for me. I was up until 2am repairing network outages.

We had tornaodo sirens all night.... I'm freaking tired!!!!!!!!!!!
The boys slept in bed with me, the dog shook all night, and I worried myself sick.
I wanna go back to Charlotte.

I guess the college lost power at about 8pm and it didn't come back on until 6:50 this morning. Good news, the test I was taking at 8am was rescheduled to Wednesday. Very -- although I could have taken it today. *I* was prepared. But the girls, being silly girls that they are, stayed up all night, laying in the hallways until the power came back on. So basically they had a slumber party, and no one studied. Which is stupid, because a good student (me) doesn't wait until the night before a test to review the material. Good grief.
The girls who live in the dorm, consequently, are not attending the conference in Indy today -- which I think is BS. It's a paid event, but our college girls (including me) had the fee waived (i.e., scholarship -- a whopping $5, but still) and are not going because they don't have clean clothes (I guess they were going to do laundry for an event 12 hours prior to the event??), and they're too tired -- like I said, slumber party.

 | Some people work best under pressure.
Don't judge.

You were right to be scared, Akern:
| Quote: | Updated at 10:38 a.m. by Bill Bryan of the Post-Dispatch:
A hiker who was killed by a falling tree limb in Castlewood State Park during Sunday afternoon's violent storm has been identified as Kent Cross, 20, of St. Peters, authorities said today. Cross and some friends were on a hiking trail in the park, in west St. Louis County, when the storm suddenly struck. Cross was fatally injured about 5:15 p.m.
Cross was one of two fatalities linked to the powerful storm, which knocked over trees, damaged property and cut electricity for up to 270,000 customers throughout the metropolitan area. Also killed was Delancy Moore, 54, of East St. Louis, who was struck by debris when a roof collapsed at the K & G Clothing store off of Highway 159 in Fairview Heights. |

You know, they're in college. It's time to put on their Big Girl Britches and take a little more responsibility, be a little more proactive.
But then you probably don't go to a very small Catholic liberal arts college and see how girls expect everything to be handed to them, spoon-fed everything they need to know, if you will, so you probably wouldn't understand. I know these girls intimately, and time and time again, they are ill prepared when they have no real reason to be. I am there every day except when sick or the kids are sick. I am busier than any of them, yet I can still get my work done PLUS be VP of an organization and help (do a great deal of work) organize a huge event that we're throwing this month. They cannot study for a simple psych test?? Cannot have clothes laid out for a conference going on the following day? WTF?
They want to be treated like women, but continue to act like little irresponsible girls. This isn't college for them; it's post-high school.
I don't always get everything done (but then my procrastination usually is because of my children), but I own it, and I still show up to class, am still accountable for my actions, or inactions. Perhaps that is just me. I've also been wearing my BGB for quite some time. I keep forgetting that youth is wasted on the young!!
It is just exasperating, and of course my post was not directed at the riff-raffers who procrastinate. I just get so tired of the BS and drama at the college.

Well, good! I'm just in a p!ssy mood. This conference was a huge waste of time today. I'm edgy from that, driving back and forth with freakin gail force winds (not really, but it was windy), every dumb@ss in the state was on my stretch of highway both going there and coming back, etc.
I'll be fine after a beer. Or ten. I do my best spanish homework with some cerveza in me.
