So there I was, working away yesterday, when I kept seeing people running past the shop down to the other end of the parking lot. Even the security guard ran by, and I've never seen him run, ever.
I finally gave up trying to get some work done, looked out and saw a small crowd about 50 yards away, including several police officers.
Rick, the owner of the computer store next door, came walking back, and when I asked what was going on, he replied, "chasing bad guys."
Turns out someone came into his store, asked to see a laptop, then ripped it out of the employee's hands and took off, too fast for them to catch up. A few minutes later, the UPS driver called Rick to tell him he'd spotted the culprit, and the chase was on. They subdued the guy, but Rick got a black eye in the process.
Poor Rick. This is at least the third time this has happened that I can think of, and his store was broken into two weeks in a row earlier this year.
I can't wait to get out of this neighborhood - we had the back door open one day to get some air, and we ended up watching a foot pursuit as the deputies chased down a robbery suspect in back of the building.
It's getting worse every year.
