Sign at Arbys: Due to the shortage of tomatoes and increased prices, we will not be serving tomatoes on our sandwiches during this time.

Huh? I haven't heard anything. I never buy tomatoes so I don't notice the price... is it really increasing that much?

That is going on at Wendys, too. I stopped by to pick up a chicken sandwich for dinner the other night, and they had a sign that tomatoes would only be added if you asked for them and if they had them. I asked for them, but they didn't have them.

I love tomatoes. Evil or Very Mad

I blame Miami schools for everything. Confused

Interesting though, I definitely want to get some tomato plants next year. It's something I like (especially fresh from a garden) but would never buy.

Haven't yet. And I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I didn't really notice any shortage, and I was just at the store. The stores in our area, get a lot of their tomatoes from Toll Jersey

They had a news story on it about 2 weeks ago here. Although, I don't see much of a shortage in the groceries.

I hear ya. I do buy the grape tomatoes in the winter though for salads, they are still yummy.

Take heart all you people and remember:-

People who live in glasshouses cannot live on tomatos alone.

I absolutely love to eat homegrown tomatoes and I eat them like an apple, I don't have tomato plants for this reason.

When I was pregnant with the girlie, I had a 24 oz cup of cherry tomatoes three times a week (my friend Gary brought his own because he knew I liked tomatoes).

Do you know how hard it is to get rid of canker sores when you're pregnant and wont' stop gorging on tomatoes?

I just ate the last tomato from my garden last week. Very Happy It was picked green, and then ripened on the kitchen window sill.

I don't buy tomatoes in the winter. I can't justify paying a dollar a tomato when I am throwing away tomatoes in August and September.

Do you have any advice for the newbie gardener regarding when to plant tomato seeds?
