It is still so unbelievable...but our lives are being rebuilt across America! I hope the Katrina victims realize they will overcome this tragedy as well.

You are right Diva, it's fitting that today is Sept 11 to remind theKatina victims of what time will heal.

i thought it was some joke by the local radio station. then i turned on cnn.

i had a test that day and had to drive to school. the electronic signs above the freeway said national emergency. i wanted nothing more than to turn around and go home.

i remember what i was wearing. i remember how scared i was that atl would be next. i think that was by far the scariest day of my life.

I was on my way back from a dentist appointment. I thought when they said a plane crashed into the WTC that they meant a small 2 seater type. Only when I got back to my desk and I turned the radio back on did I hear the full details

I remember a guy coming into my office saying a plane had crashed into one of the world trade center buildings.

Later he came back and said a plane had crashed into the second tower.

At that moment I knew "something was up"

The company put TV sets in the lunch room and the training center so we could keep up with the unfolding events.

I fully expected more attacks including trains, refineries and power plants.

No kidding we're still living it. Baghdad airport closed right after Mr Aire flew out due to credible threats. By the same group.

I was at work. For some reason what I distinctly remember is all, and I mean all Federal governement offices in the Chicago metro area were closed within a half-hour after the second plane hit. Our building was the only one not sending people home - the reason, "Social Security is the most important thing in the (Federal) Governemnt." Uh, dumbasses... the military? The criminal and intelligence agencies? Emergency management and civil defense? They finally let people leave about three hours after all the others, and to boot , we were all charged with annual leave.

Beginning September 12, they beefed up security. Meaning they had two guards at the front door reading the newspaper. I can still get in showing a picture of our dog instead of my ID .

I was at work also. As soon as I heard that a plane had hit the WTC I knew something was up. I couldn't fathom some pilot being bad enough to hit the tower no matter what kind of problem the plane had. When the second plane hit, like Ranger, I expected more carnage across the country in various ways.

Our security was beefed up considerably on Sept 12th being as we 99.9% of our work is as a supplier for the Navy.

Well... I did think it could have been an accident on the first crash because a plane had hit the Empire State Building many years ago, so it was not out of the question... When the second plane hit, I knew it was no accident... I did not expect the towers to come down.. Heavy damage yes... Come crashing down...no..

it was the start of the second week of university - and the day i was celebrating my 18th birthday.

i don't think i ever quite grasped what happened... but it was a real startling way to launch the next big part of my life - coupled with being an adult, making decisions about 'life after high school' (a new crowd of people to meet), post secondary, a serious relationship, a war... and now a blatant distrust for the presidency and a serious hate-on for certain media outfits -i gotta say it affected me in so many ways. Neutral

in all fairness though - i don't think it compares to katrina... it was a few city blocks - two towers can be rebuilt... but a whole city? very different tragedies in my mind. but that's my opinion - i don't mean to cause any debate with it.

i don't think i'll ever forget. (it all happened in the span of my psychology class i might add - and i'll tell you that when someone said "a plane flew into the world trade center" i had no idea what that even meant)

I was in Japan at the time. 9am here is 10pm there - just in time for the news. I stayed up all night watching the horror. My dad lives just a few blocks from the WTC and his office is nearby as well - I spent hours trying to track him down 'till I heard he was ok.

It may sound trite now, but that night when I went to sleep I was scared - literally scared - of the uncertainty of the future.

Months later I found out an old friend of mine, Chris Pickford, was one of the 343 firefighters who perished in the WTC.

DH called the house (I was running late) and told me to turn on the TV and tell him what was going on. About a minute later, I saw the second plane fly in. I went to work and this moronic girl I worked with said "Isn't it cool how the terrorists could orchestrate such an attack like that?" right after the Pentagon crash was announced. Plenty of our army friends were in that wing of the building. I wanted to smack her. She didn't seem to understand that attack signified the start of what would become WWIII.

DH was mobilized and sent to his unit in Chicago he commanded, in the heart of an Islamic community that was being terrorized by Americans. He got out of his colonoscopy scheduled for Sept. 12.
