When would you "let go with the flow" while racing?
Nevah - no way, no how, no chance: that's GROSS!

Only if it would make the difference between a BQ and a non-BQ.

If it meant a PR, sure, I'd wet myself.

If I had on clothes where you couldn't tell, why not?

What a silly question: I pee on myself during training; why not while racing?

First of all, what's a BQ?

In high school there was a running prodigy that crapped her shorts to finish 1st at district. That's dedication... or insanity.

Point 1 - Boston Qualifier. You need to get a certain time to be able to run the Boston Marathon, which many consider to be the holy grail of marathoning.

Point 2 - you just described Paula Radcliffe's London Marathon win.

I would not do it for a BQ. There's more than one qualifying race, you know. If you can run a 3:10 today with a full bladder, why not another day with an empty one?

Privacy, and a number of municipal codes.

Not if you pee with your shorts still on.

Dude, you missed my textbook sarcasm. What's a BQ indeed.

Particularly if the only way you'd run a 3:10, like myself, is if someone carried you or dragged you behind a car.

Squishy shoes and REALLY squishy shoes, if it runs down your leg.

Thought-provoking question! Hmmmm....in the summer, volume produced during a run is about a wash. Soakage of shorts? No way to discern between the two - my shorts are soaked after three miles.

The difference? Probably just the origination point.

no way. On a shorter race, I would definetly either pee before or wait until I finished. For a longer reace, I'd stop, pee on a tree, and make the time up by sprinting for a good 30 seconds.

I could not soil myself.

As my high school coach used to say to anyone at the starting line complaining about having to pee.. "You're gonna need whatever you got in this race, so hold it".

I was wonderin' the same thing when I read tburt's Ironman report last month...

I pissed 6 times while riding because i knew i had to make up time and i would only have minutes to spare at the end of the night....

I made it to transition in 7 hours 23 minutes and 44 seconds. Those last few miles were tough. I got off my bike and headed into the changing rooms. There were only a few people there so i sat down next to a guy and immediately was overwhelmed with the stench of piss coming off my shoes. Holy amonia batman. I quickly took them and my socks off and put them in my bag and closed it tight.

Aparently it's common in Ironman tri's, no??

Well Considering how much I sweat when I run anyway I doubt people would notice.

Is this TMI?

I haven't done it yet since I haven't had to choose between PR, BQ or take a slash!

nope....I wouldn't be able to pee in my shorts if I tried......then again, I'd never wait until 'that' happened. I pee just about anywhere.

I can stop and pullover and pee in maybe 10 seconds or less. When I find a place where there are no spectators inroute I edge over to the curb. other runners....I do not care ...some think I'm pulled over to tie a shoe the ones that know...well, they'd understand.

There is a definite advantage to wearing splits shorts versus tights or v-notch. With tights, porta-johns are a must!

No. i would not, could not pee my pants. not for a BQ, not for a PR, not even for a BillyBob. running is important but i must draw the line.....

i figure i'll be unwillingly and unwittingly doing that soon enough so i'd prefer to keep my urine to myself for now. thankyouverymuch. holding it whilst i can.
