Anybody out there tried using Timex GPS while riding a bike. If so, I'm just wondering how it worked...

(I have an old road bike in my sister's basement...that I'd forgotten all about...I'm going to go get it and start logging a couple of miles on the bike...)

No. I have a bike computer. No sense wasting half the GPS batteries on one bike ride when the bike computer gives you all the same info.

Bike computers are dirt cheap if all you need are the basic functions.

What kind of battery consumption does that GPS take? How quick do they eat them up?

I agree....the batteries get used up pretty quickly, I'd get a basic bike computer cheapie and use that.

BTW....good to see you joining the world of cross training! I think you'll see that it will help you a lot. Smile

The manual says the GPS unit lasts about 10 hours.

I bought 2 sets of rechargeable (it takes 3 AAA) for mine to save on battery expenses.

We discussed this on our run today and I will post the question here. Will a GPS watch measure the total distance covered on a course that is basically 2 loops that are almost identical. We were wondering since everyones times from Friday night's race were almost 2 to 3 minutes slower than the year before, and one guy is pretty sure they altered the course so it is now longer.

None of us have one but we were wondering if it would solve our questions about the course we ran and where the actual mile markers should have been.

Yes it will cover the distance of two loops. As long as you are moving it calculates. It won't calculate on a treadmill.

Once, I forgot to turn it off in my car. It clocked me at 55MPH! So, yeah, I think it would work fine. Cool

how big is the watch if it is taking 3 AAA batteries?? Would you guys recommend it?? It seems like a great way to track the distance of runs.

You wear a pack about the size of a pack of smokes on your arm. It is very light and you soon forget it is there. You can wear the pack under your jacket or shirt, as well.

I love it except if you run under heavily wooded areas, than it kinda sucks.

The GPS unit uses the AAA batteries. The watch is a little bit bigger than a HRM watch

Does anyone else have trouble with his watch and GPS unit breaking link w/ satellites frequently? On cloudy days or when I'm running trails, I can pretty much forget about using the odometer which is very annoying, especially on the trails, because then I'm not sure how far I've run. Sad

I have not had any problems at all with mine losing the satellite.
