Without making this a political thread.
Not getting into policy, beliefs, platform, any of that.
Anyone surprised that Kerry won?
How about the strong showing from Edwards?
Weak showing for Dean?
Gephardt dropping out of the race?
Some surprises in there for sure.
I, once again, came away impressed with John Edwards. This guy is a great speaker, and seems to be gaining momentum.

You know, i really thought Kucinich had a chance.
No. No, i didn't.
Honestly, i think it is cool that Kerry and Edwards had such a strong showing. I'd have been bored if Dean just ran away with the whole thing. What confuses me is the caucus itself. I'm still not sure i know exactly how it works.
I haven't been really following the views of the candidates as closely as i might, mostly because i can't vote in the Minnesota primary (i never registered to vote as a member of any political party). Now that the field is winnowing, i'll probably start looking at the websites of these dudes.

I thought it was pretty funny that Dean was so damn cocky through the whole thing and ended up with a crap showing. Edwards was sort of a surprise though, I thought for sure Gephardt would have been #2.

I was most surprised by John Edwards' numbers. I thought Gephardt would've done better.
I've read in a number of places that organization is the key to success in caucuses. I think Kerry proved it.

Is it just me or is the national news really having some slow news days?
I mean really, I'm not remembering prior elections even sending but a third-string reporter or two out to Des Moines and jaw it up with a voter or two.
The big winner.. Wesley Clark. The guy totally blew off even stepping foot in Iowa.

I thought it pretty funny Dean crapped out also. I think Wes Clark is the Dem's only chance of unseating George though.

That's why I am still hoping Dean wins the nomination

I've been listening to NPR's coverage of all of this, and they say that it is only since the 70's that Iowa became that big of a deal. Before the 70's, it got minimal coverage, during the 70's and after it became the media circus you see today.

Whatever happened to Wesley Clark? It seemed to me for a minute there he had a good chance...

Remember one thing - Bill Clinton was in the White House when he fired Clark from his European command. I think the Clintons have enough dirt on him (and will use it) at the appropriate time in the campagin to ensure W's victory in 2004. I think the Clinton's are eyeing a return to the White House in 2008. They don't want to run against a Democrat incumbent.

He didn't go to the Iowa Caucus. Neither did Joe Leiberman. You'll hear from both next week in New Hampshire. They call it strategy.

That would be a real turn of events. A two time Dem president thwarting a fellow Dem. Man would the news folks and late night tv have a blast with that one.
