You are right. It is a race which involves water. It consists of a continuous, two-stage race involving swimming followed by running. An expression “Aquathon” is also sometimes used. The term aquathlon is generally accepted by the ITU and USA Triathlon sanctioning organizations. Aquathlon uses distances from the triathlon; 1k swim - 5k run at the 2004 world champs in Queenstown, or 2.5k run - 1k swim - 2.5 k run in Lausanne 2006. In fact, aquathlons are like the triathlons but without the cycling part. There is also a similar sport called duathlon where the competitors cycle and run but they do not swim.
