If you have never tried to run longer than 10 km my advice would be to try half marathon first. See how you do with this and then if you feel like it, go for the whole thing. Running the full marathon could prove a too difficult task for someone who has never tried such a long distance. Remember what happened to the Greek who was the first one to complete it. If I were you I would run 12 km first, then after a week or so, 13 or 14km then again after two weeks some15-17km and so on. Small increments prove to be the best way in most of the cases when you want to improve something. Rome wasnt built in a day
