Apparently they believe if you wash a wrestler's loin cloth, you wash away all their experience, so they don't wash them. Ever. In their whole career. Which can last like 10 years.
Eeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww!!
Have you seen how they wear those things? They are essentially a giant thong. I find this incredibly disturbing.

 and then, at the end of the 10 years, the retired loin cloths can wrestle each other, creating an entirely new sport.

They do that in martial arts, too. That's where the idea of black belts as experts started.
They would get a white belt their first day... and by the time it was dirty enough that the whole thing is black, they were awesome.

this is not unlike the playoff beard hockey players grow....
sumo wrestlers are clearly more committed to their superstition.
ps. do you think they measure their "experience" based on "lines"?
