I'm sure you all have something that your family
Aunt's, Uncles, or others told you that you later found
out was false (okay a "BOLD FACE LIE")

What was it Confused:

For me there were several but I'll pick one.

My dad giving me the sex ed talk and all this birds & bees crap.

Not knowing I knew where the secret hiding place to the Playboys were.

Thank goodness DNA profiling was not around. Embarassed

That I should always trust my family before any of my friends. HAH! That old blood is thicker than water only seems to apply when it is being spilled.

My dad said I could be anything I wanted to be. I don't think everyone can be anything they want to be. I think quite often circumstances stand in the way of big dreams.

My mother said I was never going to get married (that no one would put up with me). Obviously untrue. I put the whammy on the first idiot I could rope.

Then there's the usual stuff... about that expression freezing, about the curses put on brothers not really working, etc.

I could write volumes on this topic. I think in a lot of cases, the choices we make influence circumstances and thus make it look like we are victims of them. If I think back to what I could have done with my life, it always comes down to the paths I chose getting there, even down to what seems like the most mundane decisions. Or non decisions. I am learning as an adult (FINALLY) that while our parents had a lot of influence over shaping us to be who we are, we are ultimately responsible as adults. Just had to add that. Your dad was right, Laur, and there's still time.

That various sins would cause me to burn in hell. Still waiting on that one to find out whether it's true or not. (Unless some people consider NJ hell, then maybe my parents were right all along)

That's true Alan. Here's a rather advanced case.

Actually, besides the sandman stuff as a child, mom played it pretty straight with us. In fact, I wish I had listened to her a lot more than I did. She gave me a lot of great advice that I wish I had listened to.
