1. We're located about a half block west of railroad tracks. There are three tracks together and there is a switching station just down the way and the office is surrounded by industrial business that get rail shipments. The building/floor/tables vibrate for most of the day. The sound of thunder (cars loading/unloading) is pretty loud and in tornado alley, frightening. I don't know what I'll do if there is REAL thunder outside.

2. The VP has three offices. Each has a computer with different software and each has a telephone (with different extensions). He has an office he doesn't use (but is complete with chairs, desk and papers on the desk), an estimating office (where he just estimates stuff), and a work area (that is a complete and total sty).

3. Soda is $0.20 from the machine. The first time I bought a soda, I thought surely this is a misprint. I put in $0.75 to be sure, got $0.55 back.

4. They have a Christmas tree up all year long. When I interviewed in April, it was still decorated for St. Patrick's Day. It's now undecorated, but still standing.

Well, it sounds nutty, which I'm learning is par for the course.

Walking into a new job is like walking into a home--you have to deal with all the eccentricities and dysfunctions of these strangers you're going to spend 40+ hours a week with. At first you think they're crazy as jay birds and vow that you will never sink to that level. Until, soon, about a year down the road, not only are you as wacko, but you realize you've sprouted eccentricities of your own.

Mine: my fascination/posessiveness over my stapler.

I thought it was like a heroin dealer thing. You know, hook you with the cheap stuff then raise the prices.

Your staples will be .20 each, too, you know.

SO true.

I could write a book about the oddities of this place that could be made into a major motion picture. I'm just saying.

Sounds pretty normal from my viewpoint. We have the rr track thing here also. Plus I've got two 100 ton capacity overhead cranes that run a sheetmetal wall away from my office. They do some major rumbling when going up and down the bay.

Soda's are like a quarter at Walmart, too. But, I think that might be Sams Club brand. Soda's aren't even that cheap on military bases! That is thumbs up
