http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060725/sp_nm/athletics_run_dc

The longest foot race in the world is 3,100 miles, long enough to stretch from New York to Los Angeles. Those who run it choose a different route: they circle one city block in Queens -- for two months straight.

The athletes lap their block more than 5,000 times. They wear out 12 pairs of shoes. They run more than two marathons daily. In the heat and rain of a New York summer, they stop for virtually nothing except to sleep between midnight and 6 a.m.

I may tease recumbent riders, but if I were going to try to ride all the way across the US, I'd definetely look into one.

Ultra running has hit the Yahoo headlines!!! Dancing Banana Yeah baby.
Those self-transcedance people are weird. Just sayin. Running that far and all. Isn't a 100 or 135 miles good enough for them?

ps. this race would be a MILLION times better if it were:

a) actually from new york to los angeles
b) if they had to flee/escape random obstacles and predators
c) one occasion they would have to hop on one foot, do a lap backwards, or spin around in circles 10 times before moving on.

...and i really hope they change it up every few miles - or they are going to have one leg longer then the other after 3000 miles Neutral
