Posted: 10/17/03 - 13:46 Post subject: There's a beetle in my rice!
Yesterday as I was finishing up my typical Asian dinner of white rice together with fish, chicken and veggies, I spotted a black "particle" of about 2 mm long. I inspected it closely and it was a cooked rice beetle! And I thought it was a great dinner...

It adds fiber to your diet. What?

I once was finishing a bowl of oatmeal as I realized there was a tiny weevil like critter or two in the bottom of the bowl upon further inspection, I notice 4 or 5 more.... Panicky, I go and check the oatmeal canister? its CRAWLING with them!!! They had made a colony out of our oatmeal!! I guess in my sleepy state I didn't notice my oatmeal moving and I just made it as usual... It took me days to get past that. I still have to check my oatmeal canister for a minute before I can make oatmeal in the morning.

Extra protein, dude. Ups your chances of getting on "Survivor" or "Fear Factor" as well.

It's better than finding half of a beetle, no?
I remember when I was 10 years old going to a relative's house who was a little lax on cleanliness. I was always told you eat what you are given. She gave me a granola bar. I figured it was safe--so I took a bite without looking and felt a lot of somethings moving in my mouth. I looked in the bag and it was crawling with weevil-like creatures. I had to politely remove what was in my mouth.

His wife was opening a bag of pistachio nuts and when she did, a whole swarm of moths flew out and she was shrieking like crazy...

Which further supports my earlier posted factoid.
