Two years ago today (AAAAHHHHHGGG) and it's a LONG story, but basically a deal where a different restaurant moved us down here and then decided they didn't want someone to clean up their property anymore (read: do things leaglly). We got screwed and stuck and found what we could to get us by. We were here about six months before we realized how truly awful it was, but stayed so we could
1) get Larry's hips fixed through existing insurance, after waiting a year because of this pre-existing condition crap. No, we don't need a national healthcare system. Let's let people in dire need of medical care wait for necessary surgeries to function properly until the year-long wait for the pre-existing sh&t has passed and they nearly are criplled for life, but please, make sure those fat-ass CEO's get their multi-million $$ a year bonuses by screwing people like us. I'm not bitter, really
2) Get my feet feet fixed, after AGAIN, waiting a year for the pre-existing crap to end. In the meanwhile, I develop a bone infection because the inflammation in my feet gets so severe from my arthritis/bunions because I can't get the surgery I need because the condition is pre-existing. SO these stupid fat-ass corporate assmunches now get to pay for two surgeries, one an emergency level, because I am going to get the needed surgery after Jan 1. The emergency surgery would not have happened had they paid for the one that they are going to have to do after Jan 1. So these idiots will pay twice. NICE healthcare system we have in this country. I almost lost two bones in my foot because the insurance company wouldn't pay. Seriously. The day the surgery was done the infection was so bad because the stupid insurance company wouldn't pay to fix the problem in the first place, the surgeon was talking about removing the big toe bone and the first tarsal, so I would have had a right foot with a big toe ending where it usually starts. The they would have had to do reconstructive surgery later, so that would have been THREE surgeries they had to do instead of paying for one in the first place. Morons. Plus, then I would have sued the crap out of them and not felt the least bit guilty, so there go your premiums again. I'm helping the insurance company waste your dollars and raise their premiums for you because of crap like this. They can't manage jack.
But no, we don't need healthcare reform. This country is just fine.
Because of insurance company crap and bills I have gone from being able to run 26.2 miles, skate like a biatch (placing first and second in my age group in Columbus, OH) to swimming and diving only, and now, until this surgical crap heals, I can't even swim anymore. I'm reduced to yoga and weights in bed to stay in shape. Yep, we've got a great healthcare system here. NOthing wrong with it. My husband was almost crippled for life due to the same crap. But really, the healthcare system is fine. No worries.
So, because of all of those expenses and my husband being unable to job hunt (come on, who is going to hire a guy who can barely walk on crutches/arm braces who needs surgery) until now, with the cost of living expenses and sh$t salaries here, we have been stuck. Making no money, cost of living too high. You know why no one gets anything done in the islands? Because no one pays them enough to get anything done! Then the slave-wage paying business owners have the gall to f=gripe about no workforce and lack of motivation??!!! No sh$t, Sherlock. You pay me like crap, I work like crap. Get it through your fat head.
But now, things are looking better, But none of this should have happened. Thanks to Republican corporate insurance welfare backing up the current "healthcare" system, or lack thereof, we got screwed. There's a surprise. Never mind that we have paid into the system for years. One little paperwork foul-up on THEIR part, and you are screwed for a year.
Where is G3 when I need her? Damn that f'ing shrub ( he's not even a bush, just a usless waste of landscaping that gets in the way of something good). He's backing these insurance compaies and letting people like us get screwed.
And thanks for letting me vent. SO there's your answer.
Oh, and the reason we couldn't do anything about the company that f'ed us in the first place? The family has had so many arrests for drug dealing and tax evasion that we could not find an attorney down here who could represent us due to conflict of interests, because they had all already represented that worthless southern white trash family.

We're trying. It just took a while to be able to job hunt because of all of the setbacks. We went through all of our savings in the beginning, because we were fooled by outward appearances and thought that we'd be able to still make a reasonable life in someplace that is , from the outside, this pretty.
Now we just want the F out, but having been burned so badly, we are being cautious about what we accept. Larry thought he had an opportunity a few months ago, but found out that the company that he was to work for had just gone through a major upper management change and the position had changed from something promising to something not so stable. We're just not jumping into another fire, but we have to do something soon because we'll never be able to afford to but a home here or save money an start a family.
I should start a website similar to what that chick did a few years ago to pay off her credit card debt. PleasegetustheFoutoftheKeys.com.
Anyway, thanks for listening and letting me get this out. I feel better, and am going back to working on my novel now.
Oh, and in the latest development? The owner of the restaurant that originally brought us down here has been arrested again for not remitting state sales taxes for the second time (the main reason she got rid of Larry, because she had been hiding this mess and he found out about it and wanted to fix it, an she had already spent the money.) They hadn't been paying sales taxes since the beginning of 2003, and she didn't want to pay them or want anyone to know. SHe should have a few more arrests coming, because she has only been busted now for 1stQ 2003 and 2ndQ 2003.
Have a nice day! Enjoy the autumn weather. I am starting to miss the seasons. I used to hate the cold, but now I'll deal with anything just to get outta here (well, maybe not Alaska).
