Watching the pre-marathon coverage, i almost cried. NBC was doing a little special on women's distance running and its history in the Olympics, and the showed Joan Benoit and the first Olympic Women's Marathon...and then they showed the woman who came in second, stumbling around the track and was barely able to walk....but was determined to finish.

It happened twenty years ago and i almost lost it.

The entire coverage of the race (including before it started) was very well done. It was fairly un-biased in favor of the Americans. It looked at the leaders, assessing strategy to date, what they might be expected to do, and were critical as necessary.

When they did focus on the Americans, though, far too much was on Deena, too little on Colleen, and even less on Jen. The mindset was, OK, Deena didn't win the U.S. Trials, but she's the most likely of the three to make a good showing so we'll focus on her. Once past the ten K point, there was hardly any reference to Colleen and Jen until they got into the stadium.

Aside from that LC knows that if they make a DVD of this race, she knows what to get me for a BD/Xmas/anniversary present. Smile
