My electric bill went up 75 dollars in 1 month!
I've tried to keep the air conditioning to a minimum. My former roommate had it on 24/7.
From 94.xx to 168.95!
I hate your prices, electricity.
I fully expect to see my electricity down around 45 or 50 dollars next month.

$170 for electricity? I live in a three bedroom loft and don't pay that. How big is your place and how cold do you keep it?

That does sound high.

My living room isn't much smaller than your whole place, and my electric bill isn't that high. And I have, at given points in time, washer, dryer, dishwasher, & 3 AC's...
Methinks you had a balance left over from last month?

Nope...paid the bill in full last month.
I always pay the bill in full.
The air conditioning ALWAYS seems to be running though. Unless I turn it off. When I did that, the former roommate would always turn it back on.

Now that the roommate no longer lives here, the A/C is off. Unless it becomes sweltering. And then, it's only on for a short period of time.

I have the same sq. footage, but one less bathroom. I think my current bill is about $75. I expect it to be higher next month because of the a/c. The boyfriend loves it very cool (we set it to 68 when he's here and I wear a parka). But, for whatever reason, we keep heat and cannot keep it cool. In the winter I barely have to turn the heat on.

OMG! That would be grounds for separation or castration or something!
I despise air conditioning. Nothing worse than having to bring a winter coat with you when you go out to eat or to the movies.
Windows open if at all possible. Perhaps at 90+ I will consider it, provided there isn't a breeze.

heh, we paid about $300 to $400 per month last summer to air condition our house. We kept the thermostat at 80 degrees. living in the south is a nasty business.

Which is never!
73 is downright luxurious. I don't even turn it on during the day unless it's really brutal inside (90+). Daytime usually it's 85 or so. Night I demand cooler, so 75-78. It is rare that I wear more than boxers when home.

Holy smokes. My 2000 sq ft house only costs about $125/mo to keep at 72-74 degrees. And I live in the South.
Of course I just pd $3,700 to have a super efficient unit installed.
Have you changed your filter lately?
