My hunting season has been going since Oct 18th (upland birds), I just haven't had any sucess or much time this year. Sad Unfortunately gun deer season interfers with my hunting. Too many morons out there that would think my Springer spaniel looks like a deer. Evil or Very Mad

I hope this deer season is more sucessful than last year. With all the CWD issues you have people were scared away last year. Our herd needs thining and our northern economies need the money.

They are testing for CWD in Ohio for the second year in a row this season. None has been found yet and hopefully won't be....

And dude, a lot of the guys you just called morons are also bird hunters. The deer hunters only get a week, maybe two for gun season. Give 'em a break.

Trust me I know a lot of hunters but there are a lot of people that don't know the barrel from stock of a gun who head out to have a good time, drink it up with the buddies, they just don't have much for ethics. Trust me I am not anti hunting by any means. there are also bird hunters I wouldn't trust with a cap gun, but luckily their shotguns are very effective much pass 40 yards.

Fish good, deer bad. cry

No, seriously....I am totally against deer hunting in principle, as in don't ask me to cook it, clean it, or eat it, (and fortunately women are never invited to actually go along, whew) but I refuse to preach to others about their preferences. I know it's a really fun time for a lot of men, my ex used to go every year with the boys and they always had a blast. That's cool.....but don't ask me to have anything to do with it. Or expect to hang your prize rack in my house. Wink

Dear Rob,

If you were a real man, you'd ditch the guns and bows and use rubberbands as your weapon of choice.

my opinion on hunting depends on what you are hunting.

deer are ok. there are so many of them that from an ecological standpoint, taking however many individual animals out will only do the remaining population good.

the same for most ducks... particlarly along the eastern seaboard. one species of duck, mallards i think, (who are an invasive species),are causing the decline of a native species of duck, the black duck i think.

and basicaly the same goes for alot of of other species....as long as everything is done legally, then its all good...

I can help you skin a deer. Grew up doing it, Dad used to get a couple a year. Nothing like comin home and seeing a buck hangin' from the barn rafters. Smile Good times!

I love venison, and am desperately hoping Dad gets one or more this year. Nothing says love like a box full of venison steaks, stew meat, and roasts. Smile

Best of luck to all our hunters!

I don't hunt, but most of my friends do. White tailed opened Nov. 1 in most of the state, mule opens Nov. 22.

I have never hunted but I know a lot of people like it. When I lived in Northern NJ I wished they would start hunting those non-migratory Canadian Geese! Boy do the poop alot!

They can be a nuisance. One time I observed a whole line of Canada geese crossing the road and many motorists werent too happy about it.

well, my views on hunting have softened over the last few years. simply put I despise redneck-talkin' camo-wearin' beer-gut-hangin' tree perchin' gun-totin' marlboro-puffin Blatz-chuggin and leavin cans in the woods, stupid hat wearin' irresponsible animal maming take 5 shots to bring it down and then have me a heart attack draggin' it out hunters. this, i am hoping, is not the majority of hunters as i had once believed. i have been radically anti-hunting in the past.

I have learned that there are some very responsible hunters who will shoot and kill with one shot and use every bit of meat they tote home. (Robp is a responsible hunter who is not in it for the thrill of the kill) The deer population is tragically out of control in my county. they are constantly jumping into traffic and being left for dead or causing serious accidents and injury to lots of people. I have seen as many as 8 deer in my back yard before. A fawn once walked up within 4 feet of me as i sat reading in the backyard one day..... I suppose a massive thinning of the herd is needed for lots of reasons---what i hate is the YEE HAW mentality behind the gun. "gotta gets me a head on that thar wall" --- well, yeah, at least there'd be one brain in the house.

edited to add:

what's even worse than the above mentioned redneck: the candy-a$$ed dentist i go to who makes $250 a year and never fails to brag to me about his last "conquest" on his latest Alaskan expedition. I once saw his taxidermy truck in the parking lot; back end open and all his office people ogling the 8 ft. POLAR BEAR in the back that JOE STUD PREPPY A$$ED DADDY PAYS FOR MY TRIPS AND YOU PAY TOO MUCH FOR YOUR DENTISTRY think i'll senselessly kill a polar bear or rhino today just had flown home for his oak paneled hunting room.

he has no idea how close i am to unloading on him the next time he goes off on one of his I killed this and I killed that orations as he is drilling my teeth. yeah, i need another dentist. this one will most likely have me stuffed in his basement before it's all said and done.
