We'll see an African-American or Hispanic as President before we see a woman.

No one thinks Condi couldn't be elected? I don't want this to into what you think of her or her politics, but she looks pretty well positioned to me.

I disagree. I may be wrong here - but I think women have made more inroads to the top political positions (US Senate, US House, State Governors) across the country then African-Americans and/or Hispanics. Thus the pool of potential future POTUS nominees is larger for the females.

Condi is one of two women who I see as having the potential to be players in the Presidential race. Condi and Hillary. Hillary has the name recognition. Condi's downfall is lack of experience as an actual politician.

Among other things. As much as a woman's advocate as I am, NO WAY would I vote for her.

It may happen sooner than some of us think...but my weak little political mind says that in order to happen the first time; the candidate will need to be fairly conservative...thus I think, the first woman or black POTUS is more likely to be a Republican then a Democrat

I think Condi's electability hinges on large part on the success of the policies she is associated with from the Bush admin. As the NSA she kind of failed to do her main job adequately, which was broker opinions and reign in the various sides who were arguing over the course of action about Iraq and the broader War on Terror. She let the Pentagon and Cheney control the debate and then stepped in only belatedly when things started going 'not as predicted' in Iraq.
I don't think Hillary could be it. I agree too much baggage. Sonny's probably right on women vis-a-vis other minorities, but I think the US is unlikely to see anyone other than white Christian rich guy for some time.
[Edited to fix my stupidity, ]Barack Obama maybe, depending on what he does with his next 6 years in the Senate. What say ye?

P.S. Barack is his first name.

There has been a lot of discussion about Barrack here in Milwaukee regarding this topic lately. I think you are right, if his next 6 years in the senate prove to be "successful" he could be on a ballot in the next 8-12 years.

I do get the feeling that Obama being tapped as "the guy", the Dem of the future. He's charismatic, but we'll have to see how his career unfolds.
