What do you think the bulge was that was seen during the debates, and apparently at other times.

Theories:

A transmitter to help him with the debate. I think that is highly unlikely; He would have to know it would be seen.

A wireless microphone – but he already had one on the podium and why wouldn’t Kerry have one as well and the pictures on the link below suggest he wears it at other times.

A bullet proof vest – do presidents’ really wear them all the time and why wouldn’t we have seen them with other presidents?

wearable defibrillator– the latest theory I’ve seen.

I know a lot of people say “who cares”, but I’m very, very curious. He was wearing something. What was it?

Did you notice it during the debate or learn of the debate in the news?

This is the first I've heard of it/seen it.

I for one never want to see the words "bulge" and "President" in the same sentence again.

You mean did I notice the bulge in his jacket? No, though I was more listening to than watching the debate.

My guess is it's a communication device. He's not a very erudite off-the-cuff speaker. That or he knew people would be wondering what it was, and would discuss that The Device rather than what he was actually saying.

This in no way dilutes my original response.

Could it just be a Holter monitor, to keep an eye on his heart rate, etc? Still would be indicative that the docs at least want to watch him, but.....seeing the pics, I retract my original thought about bulletproof vest or other protection of that nature, it's too small. Weird.....

But why would he be wearing it when he’s riding around in his pick up? I think the defibrillator is more likely. If that is the case, is it fair for him to hide a potentially serious health problem?

But if it was a communication device wouldn't that mean he should have had umm some better answers. Especially evident during the first debate.

I would go with a bulletproof vest.
