so i know my newly aquired road bike is older. but when the kid bike mechanic says, " yeah, we don't get to work much on friction (shifters) much anymore." i understood just how old it really is.

I picked it up from the LBS where i turned it in for a tune up and new tires. I rode it home, a couple of miles, feels nice but different(ok WAY different) than the hybrid. This weekend my roomie and I are going to take a short spin out to Decatur for lunch and back for a better feel of the bike and get more used to the shifting.

i need to put the blue reflective tape on it too. since the bike is blue it will blend nicely until i need it unblend. (as in hit by lights)

anyone know a good cheap trainer?

Touring and tri bikes still use friction shifting. Touring uses it for easier field repair while on the road.

Performace Mag trainers for about $100.

I have a Headland Headstand Trainer, that I got from Nashbar, I think it was 79.99 on sale.

Both of the fans broke off a few weeks ago, but it still works okay
