First off, with 29 races your are a seasoned athlete.

Being able to confront your personal issues, first privately and then publicly in this extended family we have here, shows you are well on your way to a positive outcome both mentally and physically. The marathon should be a celebration of the journey it took to get there. The miles are in the bank. And in 2 weeks it is YOUR time to show off what is possible when you focus on a healthy active lifestyle.

I will probably add more to this later but Elkid, From what it sounds like you have made a tremendous turn-around. Please don't give up on it after coming this far. Everyone goes through stages where they fall back in certain endeavors. Hopefully as work calms down a bit you can get back into a correct eating pattern. As always if you feel like you are back sliding I am sure someone here will gladly give you a:

Good Luck in 2 weeks and remember to post a report on how it went!

I don't think Elkid's the type of person to give up on something. Not saying that she will have setbacks - you are right there. We all have them. No one is guaranteed a coast through life. Fortunate are those who recognize the setbacks and shortcomings and overcome them.

Rest assured, Kid - we're all pulling for you! And we're already proud of you. Go get that marathon!

I agree with the others. You know (or should know) that you have many people here ready and willing to support and help you if you ever need it. Otherwise, you have a fan club that will be cheering for you in a few weeks.

Ain't tapering fun though Razz

I've posted this before.. I love runners with a demon on their back.
Many of us have something trying to chew through and yell in our ear, "you can't do it". It is a day-to-day struggle. In 13-days, I guarantee that demon of yours is going to be taking a seat waaay back in the bus.

I thought of a George Sheehan quote while reading your post...
"I run to become the runner I'll be tomorrow"

What everyone else says. I have no doubt you will be successful at your marathon. You've done the training, and I know you have the drive and are prepared mentally (no matter what creeps into your head duing the taper).

Maybe I misread this part...your friends currently think you've lost too much weight, and you feel your old habits sneaking in? It's so easy to say, and so hard to change, but take control of it now. You know to run a good marathon you have to fuel your body. If anyone could grit out 26.2, it's you, but why punish yourself that way. Eat lots, eat healthy. (I know, much easier said than done, especially when you have a history like yours)

I know that you can overcome anything you put your mind to...running, school, arguments, marathons, and eating disorders. Thanks for sharing, and sorry for the nag above. I'm just concerned, as I know you are, and many people here. Let me know if you need anything.

i'm wishing you the best elkid. i'd hope that your love and respect of running and all that it has meant to you and done for you will win out over the return of an ED. you can't have both.

good luck and thanks for sharing that.

Thanks Elkid. I will always struggle with body image and my old eating
disorders (I was anorexic then became bulimic when people started trying to make me eat), and the hardest thing to do when people tell you you're too skinny is not to take it as a compliment. It's strange, but when people
used to tell me that I looked horrific, I thought it was a good thing. It just made me think I was on the right track.

No matter what anyone says, focus on your strength, and how you can maintain that strength. This really has nothing to do with food. Your strength is obvious in your love for running, in what you've accomplished, and will accomplish. Don't let the stress of the marathon throw you off. You got to this point by being strong, and you'll get through the race just like any other race. You'll have a fantastic time, Elkid. You've worked hard for this...just make sure you enjoy it! NYC is just around the corner, so leave this marathon feeling like you'll want to do it again. DON'T PUNISH YOURSELF!!!

Good luck--I admire your goals. I also admire your ability to share in such a public forum--I know how difficult it is.

Ditto to a lot of what has already been said here.

You know battling those personal "demons" is a very difficult thing to do. It takes a lot of strength and perserverence to conquer them. You don't always beat them for good, but you definitely can get a control over them.

You've had a lot of obstacles to overcome over the years and over the past months you've done your best to make great strides in your life. That is to be admired. It's not easy to go for something when there's not a lot of faith that you can do it. Apparently, you have decided to listen to yourself and believe that you can accomplish goals you set out to achieve. That takes great strength and determination.

26.2 is going to be a huge thing for you! I hope every step you take brings you joy and satisfaction. I hope you will walk away and put some of those "demons" behind you. I believe you can do it. You're a strong person and you will do just fine.

Good luck to you, really. I am very excited about your marathon. Being someone who does not nor will likely ever race (I'm far too slow), I am in constant marvel at those who do. 26.2 is huge, and I know you will succeed. You are an athlete, and it sounds like you are a mighty fine one. Congratulations for all you have accomplished, and for all you will.

On the eating issue, I have no fear whatsoever that you cannot get it under control. You know what you need to do, and I think you can and will do it, even if it may be a struggle here and there. Good luck to you in any case.
