First off, I must say that even though she beat me by just about 4 minutes, I think I won the battle today Neutral

Had a 5K for the Red Cross down by the lake (1:00 start!)...60 degrees but pretty windy (who knew it'd be windy near a lake?)

To my surprise Sue and her fam showed up! Mr. Green What a nice gal! And I definitely enjoyed chatting with her! But for some odd reason I thought I'd line-up by her and my buddy Cory (who runs a 17 minute 5K Embarassed ). The gun fires, we all take off like mad, I stayed with them for a good 5.8 seconds and they left me. But the silly start by me was all I had needed to turn in a sub-par performance. I could blame the wind. I could blame the lack of NO mile markers , but in the end I have to blame the one person REALLY responsible. And that of course, is Sue.

I'm sure she'll post her times later but my time was 22:48 and I finished in 13th place...Not bad, mind you, guess I've just been spoiled with a string of PRs...

On a cool note/s, Joy did a splendid job at the water station and my Pops came out to see me run! At about the 2nd mile when I was hurtin, I hear a *honk* and a 'Way to go Joel!!!', and there was my dad driving on the road along side the trail by me! Mr. Green

1) PICS?

2) Good job racing (even if you did let Sue beat you Wink )

3) Way to help hold of the tradition of the meet-and-greet Riff-Raff weekend.

4) That's cool that your own family came out to see you race.

No pics cuz Joy was out by the water station with the camera, PH. She was so busy that she didn't even take any pictures of me when I ran by! In fact, now that I think about it when I ran past her I heard her say 'that damn tripwire!!!' Wink

To back up Joel's story......it was very windy......but seeing that it seems to be a given this year.....we won't use it as an excuse.

I was a little apprehensive when they said no mile markers...I like to "feel my pace" as I was suppose to back off a little today. Last minute directions she said they changed the course......I thought I heard "out and back" but I think now she said "turnaround course" and I related that to be "out and back".....so when I reached the turnaround at over 11 minutes I thought I'd better hang back a little as this was going to be long.

So I was pleasantly surprised when I could see the 2 fast guys sprinting at the corner onto grass. I'm like "hey, great I'm almost done". When I reached the grass and saw the clock I could see 18:40 and just held pace......then I saw that if I wanted to break 19 I'd have to "gut it out". "Nah" .....I maintained and came in at 19:03.

Don't let Joel fool ya'.......he had something left in the tank to run a fellow down at the end.

I'm hoping they continue this race...it was small...but they did a good job and it is nice run along the lake and massages----at a 5k!!!!! How awesome is that???

Joel--will you thank Joy for me for volunteering her time? And thanks for the watah
