This dude needs to get a life! I was wondering why I was getting all these dumb emails from runningforums. What a jerk! What's the site owner doing about this?

Lalalalala | This just may work - HH, you just creeped me out like nobody's business. Don't ever post those lyrics again, even in jest.

I'd post the lyrics to the high pitched part, but it just doesn't convey the same feeling when you're reading it.

Why would he pick US though? Easy breach of security? I mean, it's not like we really bother anyone or post anything of majorly offensive or controversial content.

Hackers do it because they can. It's a challenge. In fact, the harder the better. At least that's what I surmised by going to their forums...

That's what he said in one of his emails.

I'll just copy my post from coolrunning to explain this:
I was the one who hacked runningforums, okay?
I used a simple cookie exploit to log in as an admin to screw it up.
Surprised someone found my profile on hackquest though.
Honestly, I was just looking for random vulnerable forums with a large userbase, no idea a topic like this would appear on a separate site.
The email was just from the mass mailer in the admin panel of runningforums.
But people, remember one thing: YOU WILL STILL DIE!

Let's play CSI...
There are five running sites I can think of right off the bat.
Two have better, more up to date and supported versions of the same software than RF.
One has a much older and unsupported version of the same "type" software than RF.
RF was targeted. One would wonder why RF, if there were more challenging targets available.
Hackers for the most part, do not broadcast their intent on a competing website. They keep their conquests within their own community.
Now who would know about how to exploit this particular type of software..... How about a software developer?
Now say the hacker picks the name of a well known hacker and uses it as his/her name for the purpose of this attack to deflect attention...
Feel free to add your own forensic thoughts to this purely thoretical excercise...

Did anyone read the thread at Cool Running about this? Honestly I was quite surprised at whom a few people think did this.

I did, and I think it's absolutely ridiculous. I don't think the person they're talking about had anything to do with it....and for them to even suggest he did is asinine. I know what sparked the witch hunt, something that happened a long time ago, but I seriously doubt the validity of that crap.
however.....Ranger brings up some extremely interesting "purely theoretical" points which have crossed my mind as well. I wonder if he's thinking the same thing I am thinking?

let's just say the boy in his underware sitting in front of his computer is talking to other boys in his underware bragging about how he exploited a website.
Probably all the boys on his forum are giving high fives like he is the man.
he sucks. Probably won't amount to much in life.

He'll be somebodys "boy" in prison when he eventually gets caught... they like the little nerdy types that don't put up much resistance.
