besides totaling 108, which we see time and time again, are also uniform numbers retired by the NY Yankees...................
# 4 -Lou Gehrig
# 8 -Yogi Berra
# 15 -Thurman Munson
# 16 -Whitey Ford
# 23 -Donnie Mattingly
# 42 -Jackie Robinson (not a yankee but his number is retired by all teams - currently mariano rivera wears #42 and he'd be a lock for his #42 to be retired also.

He's had it whole career and when they retired Jacki Robinson's #42, I guess there was no provision that said existing players had to relinquish their #42s..
