I've been sweating on going to this race meeting for the last month; there are at least two stand out bets that I reckon are dead set stone bonkers.

Believe it or not, I coach athletics with a stable of about eight runners who run state grade. I even told them that they would have to do without me this Saturday so keen was I to go to the Gee-gee's.

Now we get a phone call last night Tim (my eldest, 28y) has been promoted to the first eleven in the local cricket side. Tim is a medium/fast swing bowler and is a pretty dab hand with the bat. This is the first time he has broken through to the top team but let's face it at 28 he will have a hard time holding down his spot.

What do you rekon Riff-Raffers? I've planned going to the races for the last month, some of my runners are crooked on me and think I should be there for them and now Tim get's a chance.

Me old Dad always used to say "you can go for the glory, you can go for the money but you always go in for your mates"

Guess I've just answered my own question (thanks Dad)

I don't understand cricket at all, but it sounds like maybe your son got promoted to the American equivalent of a minor league baseball team. For that, I'd go see his game instead of going to the race.

I'm assuming that your track team will race again some day and that your son will continue to play at that level for a little bit, but since it's his first game, I'd go to that.

I agree with PH,
It sounds like your son has just taken a step up in Cricket and I think it would mean a lot to him for you to be there to see his first match.

Always go with family. Friends are wonderful, but at times they move in and out of our lives, family we're stuck with. Very Happy

especially our kids. If he called you, it's obvious to me that it would mean a lot to him to have you there. No matter how old they get, those kinds of moments are priceless.

And then you can update us on the standings of the rugby WC!

Yeah, i'm not sure exactly what you just said, but go with family. Your track team will get over it. Your son will remember.

Cricket's part of your heritage as an Aussie, just like boxing kangaroos. Watch 'em play.
