Posted: 10/10/03 - 10:21 Post subject: The Big Woods 5K: Thoughts on Next Week's Race
So i've been running for about a month and half now. I've worked my way up to where i can run 3 miles and depending on the day i can do it without stopping. I realized pretty quickly that i would not be able to run the 10k with my brother on the 18th. No chance i would be able to hit that distance, but there is a 5K on the same day at the same place.
I looked at last year's race results for the 5K and now i'm really excited to run it. I expect that i should be able to dip a little below 30 minutes for the race. Amazingly enough, if this year holds up to last year, that will put me into the middle of the pack. Even more amazingly enough, if i can get pack to where i used to be, my PR of 19:42 would have placed me second. I have no illusions of being able to run that fast any time soon, but i'm gonna go back there in 2 years and rip up the course.
I'm just happy that i probably won't be all the way back in the pack. I hope.

Great gobs of good luck!! I'm thinking that one is a trail run, so the times might go +1:00/mile for being off-road and hilly. It should be a supah scenic one with prime leaf colors! Give 'em heck.

Good luck on your 1st race since you've started running again.
I looked at past scores from my first 5K and the guy that won had a 16:something time. The next year when I didn't run it, the winner had a 21:something time.
Go figure.

Your first race back just go have fun.
I'm doing a hilly 10k in Dec usually 2000 runners and the winning time last year was 29:27 I might finish before he is done lunch.
