I determined with latest gas prices it would be about $10 a month cheaper to take public transportation, but would add an hour and a half of transportation time on each day if I did that. Oh, and for safety, hygiene, and dress code reasons, and well, the simple fact that I like my bike too much to chain it up with the bike messenger' POS's that I'm half convinced are all stolen, I am unable to ride my bike in. Maybe at my next job.

So you can drive your car back and forth to work all month for less than $10?

I can leave my office and be home in 25 minutes by car, or I can be home in an hour waiting for the train. Same thing in the morning. I have a ½ mile walk to/from the office to the station, which is not that bad, but it takes a physical toll on me.
I still use the train when one of our car's are tied up or I am staying in town.

Houston was not made for public transportation, it was made for cars. Lots of them. Any attempts at making public transportation easier to use and more accessible are squelched by either the voters or the organization that runs our public transportation itself, Houston Metro, in some stupid move (building a surface street level train from nothighly traveled route of the football dome to downtown Houston). If I had remotely close access to decent (read: reliable and cheap) transportation I would take it. I'm not arguing $90/month parking after sitting in traffic isn't a racket...
