Posted: 04/14/03 - 14:35 Post subject: That's it! I'm calling animal control.
Mrs. Hayes just called me in tears to tell me that some of the neighborhood dogs attacked her while she was walking around the block. She's OK, but one of them did get a hold of her shirt.
She told me which dogs it was and I'm very familiar with them, but I've never seen them out before. They ALWAYS bark and jump at the fence when I run/ride by but like I said, they've always been behind the fence.
Today they weren't and Mrs. Hayes said she was just walking along and the 3 of them came running at her and she just froze until she felt one of them start tearing at her shirt from behind and then she started swinging her stick and hitting them in the head.
She said they backed off a little and regrouped and that's when the owner called them off. My wife yelled at the owner that she was going to call 911 and went home.
The 911 operator said that we can press charges (which is just a ticket), have animal control issue a warning or take them to court. We're going to have animal control give them a ticket since they didn't do any physical damage.
She seems pretty shaken but I think she'll be OK. She'll just need to carry a bigger stick next time so she can do some real damage.
I told her to call me if the animal control person was interested in my laundry list of loose animals that I've encountered. It's time for me to take a little action too.

DAMN STRAIGHT you should take action, PH. That's freakin ridiculous and these damn owners need to start getting punished.
and thank God your wife had a stick with her! (do I need to ask why?)

She usually has a couple good-sized rocks too. Don't know why she didn't today.

I hate vicious people and their damned vicious dogs. May they all in hades.
I'm glad the Mrs. is okay, and the more people that report this menace to the neighborhood the better, 'cause maybe someone will do something if there are more reports.

That's very scary. Loose dogs in packs with temperaments like those are an accident waiting to happen.
Edited to say if a dog attacks a person or another dog here it must be put down immediately. Don't you have a bylaw like that in your area?

I had a similar experience with a neighborhood dog this weekend. I went ballistic on the owner, screaming about leash laws and the like. The owner said he was very surprised at my reaction, as I had dogs and should be more understanding. I said, "Yeah, I have dogs, but I KEEP THEM BOTH ON LEASHES UNLESS THEY'RE FENCED IN MY YARD." As if two miniature poodles, each under 5 lbs, can be compared to this guy's almost-as-big-as-me husky.

You were attacked by a Husky? Oh, say it ain't so?
My bet is wolf hybrid or some other non-Husky.
Says the Husky owner....

Yikes!!! That sucks...if you're going to have a dog you need to take responsibility for it. I always wonder about people who just let their dogs run loose in a residential or city area....why even bother to have one.
I am glad she is OK...I would also like to know why the rock and stick????

glad she is OK PH. i surely would have soiled myself dry had i been her.
there is this little vicious guy who jumps up over the fence to look at me--there are BEWARE OF DOG signs all over the yard...i've changed that route cuz i truly would be frozen in fear if he ever made it over the fence.
stupid pet owners need to be sticked and stoned. (and i mean that in a bad way)
i always had a large stone in my hand when i'd run this one trail alone but it was mostly for the weirdos on two feet, not four, altho' a rock might do enough to scare off a charging dog....yikes, that is too scary.

There's that many of them??!! (I mean its good to be prepared but I guess since it's not an issue here... I never thought about it. What about pepper spray similar to what the mail people have? It's certainly less bulky.)

There's typically a little weiner dog loose. He's slow though and gets winded easily. There are a lot of dogs in the neighborhood and the stick is just in case one/some of them get loose, like today.
