Very scary indeed.
When the Marine was around that age (3 or 4) I awoke one Sunday morning and when I walked by his bedroom I noticed he wasn't in bed. So I walked through the house figuring he was watching tv or something. Nowhere to be found, I ran and checked doors and found the front door unlocked. Seeing as it was January, about 20 degs and with snow on the ground I was outside in a flash calling his name. I walked around the corner of the house and there was a sight to behold - both him and my 100 lb German Shepard's head peaking out of the doghouse. He was still clad in his pj's but had the smarts to put on his winter boots. He told me that "him and Max stayed nice and warm in Max's doghouse".....

Our alarm system makes a beep noise whenever one of the doors opens. If it's set to where we're all in the house and one of the doors opens, the alarm sounds.
Sometimes it's not for who's coming in, but who's going out.

The sensor on the back door and my daughter's window are set immediately to full alarm if opened when the alarm is set.
I'm glad this story had a happy ending. It's one of my greatest fears.

Funny enough that's why we have two big hairy dogs and a cat--they hear a door or a window and will growl. (yes, even the cat growls)
So, now that my son is a teenager--and I fear his sneaking out--I'm hoping our alarm system helps out.
And I'm glad too that the story ended well--and yours too Rob. What a cute story though--one I am sure his girlfriend/wife will love to hear someday.
