Man Gets Stuck in Animal Game Machine
Mon Jan 5, 8:43 AM ET
Austin, TX. - A man had to be rescued with the help of a locksmith Saturday after crawling into a supermarket's stuffed animal game machine while his wife talked on the telephone.
"He was sitting right in there with the stuffed animals singing the Barney song," said Shift Commander Joe Oyster of the Austin Fire Department.
He said the man, whose name was not released because he is a jackass, crawled through about an 8-inch-by-10-inch opening to get into the glass enclosure via a chute where the toys come out, but when he tried to get back out, his way was blocked.
The stuffed animals are prizes that can be hooked by players with a crane-like device.
"His wife was three feet away at a pay phone," Zittel said. "She was talking on the phone and she said the next thing she turned around and Alan..I mean HE was in the thing."
She said the husband turned hysterical when he couldn't open the bag of Jalepeno chips that he initially dove in for. But he didn't panic as firefighters responded to the Walmart store and threw in a scissors for him to open the chips. The process took about 3 days.
"There was no panic on our part," Zittel said. "Out of pure stupidity we could have blown the machine up. But we felt bad for his poor wife so we decided to save him."
The Austin politician was not injured or traumatized but desperately had to go to the bathroom for unknown reasons", he said.
But rescuers hadn't figured out how the man was able to crawl into the game, or why no one in the store's busy lobby spotted him and stopped him before he got inside.
