Posted: 08/27/02 - 09:16 Post subject: Team triathlon attempt
Well last Saturday me and a couple of friends entered a triathlon as a team. It wasn't an overly hard one, .5 mile swim, 20 mile bike and then a 5K to end it. We started off real well, my friend John(whom some of you met) did the swim, he was 6th out of the water(12:36) for the relay heat and then he tagged off to Dan. Dan started off well(you'd have to meet Dan, good biker, thighs the size of Dan Jansen's) passing people like crazy (relay teams were the last wave) said he was averaging 23-25 mph when he turned off the smooth road onto a normal Wisconsin side road (deer trail?) well he blew out his front tire immediately. royally pissed off he was but one of the people riding herd convinced him that he should change the tire (he just started biking this spring, was riding John's bike) so he said he spent about 25 minutes doing this, from the blowout till he was back riding. He came in at 1:23:11, he was hoping on 55 minutes. Well he tagged off to me but by now there wasn't any competition left in the 5K part to really push myself against, felt pretty silly running past people walking and crawling.I finished my 5K in 17:45. We ended up 20 minutes out of placing top 5 and about 25 minutes out of winning outright. Kind of depressing to see what you could have done but now we know what to work on for our next attempt ( changing tires ) This experience has given me the idea to maybe try a few triathlons on my own, maybe next year. Hope everyone had a great weekend-cjay

Dang skippy that's an awesome time for a 5K! Sounds like you had a pretty solid team all together.

Sweet run, cjay! Things will go better next year...the flat tire was just bad luck.

Thanks everyone. We think we have a pretty good team put together here. My son has been practicing for football at the high school (jr. pee wee) so I have had a chance to do some speed work on the track lately, it really seems to help. I know if there had been a little more competion at the end I could have been faster but I am pretty happy with my time-cjay

For the record, I'd be thrilled to death with that time.
