Posted: 01/28/04 - 17:02 Post subject: TV in the Bedroom?
This issue is a real hot button for me. I do not want to have a TV in my bedroom nor in any of my children's bedrooms. Period. No TV just for game systems either.
We have a TV in the upstairs living area and in downstairs in the gameroom. Rarely are both used at the same time. TV's in bedrooms only isolate. If kids want to have alone time, let them have it without brain-numbing TV and games.
One would think that given my well-known position on this issue that a spouse would not leave open the possibility that a bedroom TV for a 7 yo. unfrickinbelievable

One Go and his/her parent thought it would be a great idea for the Goettes to get a TV when they began to share a room and free up the other as a playroom. The other Go and his/her parent were downright uptight about the whole matter. Happily, the Goettes decided they didn't want to share a room, so there remains a TV in our living room and one in the parent bedroom.
I just found out that on nights when I'm not home, dinner gets watched with the TV on. After a parental summit, I think that's done now. I'll find out. Mr. Go swears little ones to secrecy, but they drop the dime on him all the time. (How else would I have known that when I'm on business trips he feed them ice cream for breakfast?)

I resisted for several years until I was convinced of snuggle time while watching movies.

I am against TV in the bedroom too, just because hubby is tech freak and has trouble pressing that button to make the shiny picture go away at bedtime. Back when we had TV, he would stay up until the wee hours watching and then drag his arse to work the next day.
Weights then: 240 and 170
Weights now: 195 and 135 (and dropping)

Don't you HATE it when the Mr's do that! I've been trying to cut down on the tv time with Nichole but since I get home 3 hours later than anyone else Keith lets her watch it all afternoon.

TV in my bedroom? Hell yeah. TV in the children's bedrooms? NEVAH! It's a hot topic here at times, because John had one when he was a kid. I didn't. If I let them have tv's, I couldn't monitor what they watch (or when) unless I get tivo or do that ratings block thing (still doesn't solve the watching tv at 3 in the morning), and they watch too much tv as it is. No. My kids don't need tv's in their bedrooms.
When they move out and get their own places, then I don't care how many tv's they have or where they put them. Heck, my dad has one in his BATHROOM. Whatever floats your boat.

Television in the bedroom? How else ya gonna watch them there adult videos?
The bedroom has two main uses and one of 'em ain't watching television. How inconsiderate is it for one spouse to watch the t.v. while the other one tries to sleep? That might happen part of one time. The offending spouse could go bag their arse elsewhere to watch the tube.
Rude. No bedroom television unless you're bedridden.

I don't have one in my bedroom. I just use it for sleeping.
I think I'm learning another lesson here as well (not just this thread but in my time onboard the forums). If my future children ever ask me something, my response should be, "What does your mother think?".

No TVs in the bedroom. Not ours, not theirs. We have two TVs, one in the den that has all the electronics hooked up (DVD etc) and one in the office. The office TV is really just holding down a shelving unit, but gets used occasionally when viewing preferences diverge.

Only since we started remodeling and had to move everything out of the basement. We have one in our room just for now.
We don't watch it much...but it's kinda nice to have.

I have a television in my bedroom in lieu of a spouse and children...it's cheaper, more entertaining, and does exactly as I tell it
