If you think about it, they are saying that you should say "thank you" when you are in an awkward and uncomfortable position and are trying to avoid telling the truth...
Then they say.."Thank YOU for being our customer"

Because its awkward and uncomfortable being a citibank customer? Or Citibank is always making faux pas in communications to its customers?
