I heard about the ongoing debate whether the swimer should tread opened hand or not. I have been swimming with closed hand for all my life and find hard to believe that one can benefit from spreading his fingers in the water. Don’t you reduce the resistance and thus the effectiveness of your strokes when you spread the fingers?

Fingers apart? I heard of that debate too. They can’t seem to agree whether a slightly open hand provides more lift or if a closed hand is most efficient. I've seen swimmers doing it who claim that this open-handed style- is the most natural and effective for them but haven’t been able to see the real benefit. Until they prove for sure that is more effective I will stick to the old fashioned closed hand.
