People like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy would've thanked you. As I'm sure Charles Manson wants to.
I imagine the 100+ people who were on death row and later found innocent would thank him more.

True dat. That wasn't my point. My point was that he's against it in ALL cases. Surely everyone can agree that serial killers are beyond help, so I have a real problem having my tax dollars being spent keeping someone alive who will never be reformed. Add serial rapists and repeat pedophiles to that list, too.

There are some people who are beyond redemption, but until we can be sure that the death penalty is 100% accurate, I will be against it in all cases. It is better that Ted Bundy live than an innocent person die.

It's hard for me to accept how the state, to make the point that killing is wrong, does that very thing. And that's not even considering the bias that is so pervasive within the system.

I know it's been a bit since we've discussed this topic, but I wanted to share a very unofficial poll from my Senior Criminal Justice students on death penalty for teens.

Keep in mind, they are Texans.

91 out of 111 think that if you do the crime then take the adult punishment, including the death penalty. I was rather amazed. (it was the topic of our class lecture today, and my one senior class yesterday)

I have to go with Cam on this one. And in terms of cost the costs of appeals alone are generally more than it would cost to keep a criminal behind bars with no chance of parole, I do believe.

Maybe your prof should pay the $2.00 to get this NY Times magazine article, Kattzoo. Or you could copy it as part of a class dicussion and earn some brownie points!! Not that you need them, mind you Wink

It talks about how science is learning that the part of the brain associated with consequences is not fully mature in most people until adulthood.

although the cost thing is true, I take elkid's position. There are certain degrees to most anything. Why infilitrate our prisons with poison to already corrupt minds. These totally beyond whacked serial killers are in prison will those that can be rehabilitated. I know I don't like my children "near" other kids that I find offensive.

I don't believe that capital punishment is for the worst of crimes. I believe that capital punishment is for the worst of crimes committed by a person completely beyond repair.....basically a serial murderer.

And yes, I feel that 16 and 17 year old should not be executed. The age for consent is 18, for voting 18, etc. Be consistent.

Dude. Do you have NOTHING to do today, such that you're down to pulling out years-old threads and commenting on them?
