PostPosted: 02/04/03 - 17:31    Post subject: Sunrise? Sunset?
On January 1, 2003, in my little area of FLA:
Sunrise: 7:22 am
Sunset: 5:46 pm

On February 1, 2003, in the same place:
Sunrise: 7:18am - a difference of 4 minutes
Sunset: 6:10 pm - a difference of 24 minutes

Can anyone explain this to me? Why is there such a difference between the times? I would think that AM and PM would be more equal in lightening.

Here's a link to where I got my information.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I am now humming the
song from Fiddler on the Roof.

Time is actually all a big scam.. if we all went to metric time, it'd be much easier. 100 metric minutes to the hour, 100 metric hours in a day, 10 metric days in a week, 10 metric months in a year.

Ever see one of those Geochron maps in airports where they show the pattern of sunlight on the earth? Because of the tilt of the planet, the sunset "edge" of the daylight parabola widens faster as spring approaches. It's not symmetrical relative to the axis of the earth. There is a 23 degree offset which corresponds to the tilt of the planet.
