Posted: 11/16/02 - 08:37 Post subject: Staying Put
The deal offered via phone Friday was so radically different than what had been discussed in earlier meetings that is was, to a degree, insulting. I understand the internal politics of the company that made the offer and why they decided to make an offer that had not been discussed with me earlier. If the talks had started down this road at the beginning they knew I wouldn't have given them the time of day.
Anyway, no change in my job status. I told my current employer an offer had been offically made and that I was not inclined at all to take it. They are very happy that I am staying and have made it clear that loyalty is to be rewarded. Now we just work our way though that little dance.
Of the people that wanted to hire me away, I really do wish half of them the best of luck and will continue to remain on good terms with them. The other half, if I never hear from them again they will not be missed.

That sucks dude that the offer was less than you expected and that they toyed with you like that. It sounds like you work for a good organization.
Dude card for you!

They toy with you for weeks and then won't give you what you're worth. What a bunch of losers. Sounds like you are better off where you are.

Bummer that it didn't work out the way you thought, Alan...but like RR said, things happen for a reason, and you may find out that this was just what your current employer needed to make them realize just how valuable you are. Hopefully in the end it will be the best thing for you to stay where you are.

better to find out now that they weren't quite what that they presented themselves to be then later....but even still it's quite understandable that you might be a tad disappointed...hopefully, your loyalty will be rewarded!

Another 1.
Alan, I'm sorry the offered deal was so lacking. But know that you made the best decision.

Not much more to add to this, Alan. How do you feel now? Perhaps this will 're-energize' you with your current job? Well, good luck to you and at least you have it a shot, yo.

Joel, that is the funny thing. I didn't give anything a shot. They came to me. They came to me asking me to take a gamble. When the offer was made they had to admit they had one eye on showing me the door.
If what I wanted to do in life was be what we, in my profession, called a hired gun. They are so clueless they have no idea a standard contract for a lobbyist in Texas runs for three years. Nobody who has an idea what they are doing will sign a client for less time.
Anyway, when I tell them no I am not going to burn any bridges. You never know who will be where or what the world will look like in 10 years.
BUT...if I could tell them how I feel--the out-of-state partners who altered the deal, I would say
[scroll:fa7e2b4f00] [/scroll:fa7e2b4f00]
And I catch you messing with my client at the Capitol I will relish giving you the
[scroll:fa7e2b4f00] [/scroll:fa7e2b4f00]
And afterwards my clients will sit around and
While whoever you hire as your lobbyist tells you
And I get the big last
[scroll:fa7e2b4f00] [/scroll:fa7e2b4f00]
Great thing about Running Forums and RR is I can tell you what I really think. When I it will be all nicey nicey and best wishes and for 11 years I felt alot of and I am not at all
But I will really be on the phone going:
And it will be I will ya.
But the best part is I know two of the key decision makers will be
