My first year doing this race. It's in Tullahoma, TN so I stayed with the in-laws on Friday night. I picked up Poky at the nearby mall and we drove down to the race site together.

Pre-race breakfast :: Granola Bar, Skittles and Coffee

Pre-race stuff :: Met a woman from Atlanta that I raced with last weekend that also drove up to do this race. Met some of Poky's real-life friends. The race had a wave start (for whatever reason). It was waves of 25 by your arbitrarily assigned race number. I ended up starting in the 4th wave.

The First Run :: Started off strong. First mile in 5:50. Must have faded quickly, but it sure didn't feel like it. Passed a bunch of people and hit T1 in 16:08 for a 6:31 avg. pace.

In and out of T1.

The Bike :: Brought my road bike to this race. Hadn't raced it for a while. I thought I was going to have the bike split of my life based on my speed the first half, then I realized that almost all of the first half was downhill. Of course that meant that the return leg was almost all uphill. Neutral Passed a bunch of people. Avg. speed of 20.9 MPH.

In and out of T2. There were ants in my shoes, but I guess they didn't want to hang around for the 2nd run because none of them bit me.

The 2nd Run :: Felt strong, but I guess it was only a feeling because the first mile marker didn't show up until 7:23. Sad Passed some people, don't recall getting passed at all on the 2nd run. Final split was 17:33 for a 7:05 pace.

The results :: Ended up 15th OA and 3rd in my AG. Not real happy with either of those numbers. Not sure when my run times were so sucky. No real calf problems this week. My bike speed was probably a little slower because I was riding a road bike, but probably only .5 to 1 MPH though. I posted the fastest run times in my age group on both runs, but got whooped on the bike leg.

The pics ::

The start of the 4th wave.

Adjusting my ruby glasses so my optic blasts don't hit any of the other duathletes.

The AG trophy. The race was held at an airspace museum, that's why the trophies were propellers.

Check out the bike splits for the male 40-44 AG. They ROCKED!
