How long should you maintain your base before starting speedwork. Hypothetical: Say your goal base is 30 mpw. Should you run at that mileage for a few weeks before beginning speedwork, or is it ok to just jump into it when you hit that mileage goal?

I'd maintain the base for a minimum of three weeks before seriously considering speedwork. Throw in a weekly tempo run if you want but I'd stay away from the anaerobic stuff.
