Wow. My life may have just gone down the crapper.
For quite a few weeks now Keith has been getting into a co-workers locker and messing with his stuff. Nothing major, just re-arranging his things, changing his locker combo. Not anything that hasn't been done to everyones locker out in the shop at one point or another. There were quite a few people in on this including the "leadman" who were all getting a good laugh out of it. So said co-worker gets his manties in a bunch about it and now claims 5 dollars has been stolen along with some medication.
Said "leadman" who was in on it went to his boss with it (of course now he had no idea what was happening). Boss # 2 tells Keith yesterday to knock it off and it was dropped. Apparently co-worker was ticked off that nothing was done and he went to Boss #2's boss. Today Keith is informed he is either being fired or getting 3 days off. I don't know when they plan on making their decision but its all I can do to sit here. If he gets fired, I QUIT. Oh crap....

Yeesh. I hate when people take themselves so seriously. Life's too short.
I feel for ya. Hang in there!

I think that getting fired would be a bit too much, but if the co-worker didn't see that anything was being done beyond lead worker telling Keith "dude, don't do that", then the complaint is justified, especially if something has been taken.
Maybe its just me, but i don't have so much of a sense of humor about my property, especially if co-workers are messing with it. That's just not appropriate to me.

Never work for the Feds. I've had stuff here that can never be replaced (such as a photo from our wedding) deliberately destroyed. Management's attitude is either "I can't think of why someone would do that" or "You are causing a disruption by complaining and are hereby reprimanded." You're supposed to treat it like a big joke. F--- 'em.

You're right. Couldn't do it. I'd be unhappy if something happened to this cookie sitting on my desk, let alone anything actually important.

That stinks Akern. I don't think they've got grounds to fire him though. If they try to fire him Keith needs to start dropping names of who else was involved and get some of his co-workers to back him up. It sucks you can't even have a sense of humor in the workplace anymore.

I only had one item messed with in 21 years here. I delt with the individual one-on-one. Never had it happen again.
A little horseplay is normal and if it is not carried too far, it's harmless.
Sounds like over reaction on managements part, and I can say that because I'm a manager at two companies.

I'm not saying what Keith did was right. Trust me I've been on the receiving end of all that stuff. When I first started working here I was a 20 yr old girl tossed into the middle of a machine shop with 30 other men. My stuff was messed with, let me tell ya. I have an excellent sense of humor but I will admit sometimes I'd had enough. But you know what? Instead of telling on someone I'd confront the offender face to face and say "Hey a-hole you're really p!ssing me off!" And guess what? They'd STOP doing whatever it was they were doing!
G-dog I'm sorry about your picture! That's horrible. No one around here would destroy anything let alone something as personal as that. We're talking about some tools being labled and re-arranged. I'm not sure what type of work environment you guys are working in, but when you work in a machine shop: Your wrenches will be greased, your tools will be rearranged, you'll have holes poked in your soda can when your not looking, I could go on all day.

I agree that it would have been the better way to handle the situation.
