Posted: 02/02/05 - 15:09 Post subject: Speaking of Unemployment
Ugh!! I was laid off last Thursday. Let's see. 11 years with the very small company. I did everything. The store has hit a rough spot and needed to do something immediately. I was laid off without notice and without severance. It makes sense that she let me go, seeing that everything I did the owner can do. Only problem is owner wasn't present (she would come in for about 10 hours a week) for last 4 years. And now she starts to show interest when it's prolly too late. If she paid attention sooner it may not have gotten to this point. So I was laid off, one coworker took pay cut and 3rd coworker is down to 2 days and he's doing deliveries on the side. I really hope it works and the store survives. It really is a great store and great atmosphere. I've gone thru all emotions from crying at the drop of a hat, anger, denial, depression...now I'm just trying to figure out what to do.
I need to find a job but can't figure out where to start looking. I don't want to work weekends. I don't want to sit at a desk all day. There's a place called the Design Center in Boston. It's a huge place that caters to designers and is open M-F 9-5. I'm going to take my resume there next week. Option #2-go back to school to become a surgical tech. My friend works in the OR and her boss told her I could go in next week and follow her around into the OR and everything. Could be interesting!
(It's too bad this didn't happen in a few months when the IM training is in full force.)

I forgot that. I'm sending them a resume next week too. It's an all women's gym and general manager position. I'm waiting for my brother and FIL to critique my resume.

That sucks, Dancer. I hope it works out for you. The good [?] news is that in my research, I've learned that Mass gives the highest unemployment benefits in the country.
It must be hard to get torn from a job you like.

I know I'll be better off in the end. Just don't tell me I'll have to shop at Talbots for an interview outfit.
