Posted: 04/15/03 - 09:12 Post subject: Speaking of Buying New Beds...
The Paramedic and I desperately need a new one. The one we have now is shot. The frame leans to one side; if you push it back into place that lasts for only a night or two. Puppy #2 has chewed the footboard something fierce, and it creaks terribly.
I want a true queen-sized platform bed, kind of a “bed on a box”, where the base is solid wood. I am willing to sacrifice under the bed storage for supah 100% support and comfort. But where can one purchase such a bed, since The Paramedic thinks I cannot make it myself? Any ideas?

What kind of tools have you got? If it's just the box under that bed, then you could probably make it yourself. Home Depot might even do some of the big cuts for you for a nominal fee.

AHH! Someone who finally thinks I can do this! We have standard power tools (circular saw, jigsaw, multiple power sanders) and I think the Depot will do a few mitre cuts for me if I want to get that tricky. I think I could even rig the headboard onto the box since the footboard is pretty much destroyed and therefore useless anyway.
I think I might give this a go anyway as a weekend project and see if I can incorporate hinged doors for storage. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't know why you couldn't do it...I am sure it's been done before. I don't know what tools you would need but it would probably be a lot more sturdy than some beds you can buy....

If you add hinged door for storage, you'll have to make some sort of sub-frame to support the bed that will also double as some sort of divider for the storage. It can be done but it will be more work.

You can totally do it yourself. I'll PM you some specs to work with and a basic design we have here at our store.

I thought you were in the business of selling furniture.
