Posted: 04/25/03 - 18:03 Post subject: Sore Scapula/Back/Shoulder (a tri-swim question)
Hey y'all,
Just a quick inquiry. I've noticed in the last few days that I've been really sore/tight in between my scapula (muscles in the middle of my upper back). Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any way to stretch it out? I'm wondering if it has to do with my freestyle technique and if so, does anyone know how to correct it? It doesn't hurt while swimming, just after. I've been doing some fairly intense training these last few weeks, but I've never been in pain like this before (not from swimming anyway)
Thanks for your help!

Hey flip,
Welcome to the board!!!!
While I haven't really found a good stretch for the back. One thing that helps me is the Self Myofascial Release I posted about.
Good luck!

try the tennis ball thing. roll the ball under the tight area while lying on your back on the floor. it will hurt but is very effective in releasing tension and knots in muscles. (similar to deep tissue massage)
welcome flip!

Thanks for your help, the article looked really interesting, and I'll try the tennis ball thing. I'm also going to enlist in the help of a coach to see if we can fix up my technique.
I'm so glad I found this board!!!
