I heard one report last night that something like 10% of the US supply of coffee, originating from Brazil and destined for US markets, was destroyed in the Port of New Orleans.
Brazil is by far the largest exporter of Coffee to the US.
I suppose I don't have to explain what this will mean...

10% of the US supply seems like a very large amount of coffee. Was it maybe 10% for this MONTH???
Oh well, I already pay almost $4 for my coffee...might as well add another $1 or $2.

I got the facts here, Its "only" 8% of the US Supply.
BOGOTA, Colombia - Hurricane Katrina may have destroyed about 1.5 million sacks of coffee stored at warehouses in New Orleans, raising the global price of coffee and benefiting coffee growers across the world, officials said Friday.
"There were about 750,000 sacks of coffee in New Orleans certified by the New York Board of Trade and private importers had a similar amount," said Gabriel Silva, head of Colombia's National Coffee Federation.
The coffee lost in New Orleans represents about 8 percent of annual coffee consumption in the United States, according to a study by the Colombian coffee federation.

I'm sure the Wal-Mart Distribution Centers will keep me in coffee. Of course the can I bought today will last a while.

Hey, my philosophy is...if I'll spend $4 for a cup of (medium-sized) coffee then why not spend $4 for a gallon of gas.
Thank.you.very.much.
