If you have not been to the Katrina affected areas, you should go. Ihave not been to New Orleans, but most of the reason I want to go run the race I posted yesterday is because of this picture.
This was taken on Dauphin Island in Mobile Bay. I was standing on the beach and this house was at least 2 blocks away from me. There were three empty lots between where I was standing and this house. (The homes had just been taken out to sea.) This was one of the homes that was in better shape on the island. There was just not much left on the island. No place to use the rest room or eat. However, it was still beautiful to me.

We actually had a group of about 15 students and 4 staff go down to New Orleans to help. The student that organized it had been going to Tulane but transfered up to Temple after the storm. They drove in vans all the way down, stayed in a camp ground and worked on rehabing some homes.

and in the end, actual relationships are formed. | My nephew did that last year. They went to W.V. and worked on houses of people not so fortunate. (He ended up doing roofing work the whole week he was there, and I don't think he'd ever been up on a roof top in his life.) I know he had a great time.
