Got fish? We have a 35 gallon, with cichlids. Up to about 10 fish now. These are the meanest fish!
The biggest one is blue, and I'm watching him bully the others. He chases them for a while, then acts casual, like he's through, and then charges the group again when they're convinced he's not interested anymore.
It's strangely peaceful to sit and watch the fish, waiting for M to walk in the door.

I had fish back in school until a fraternity brother ate them on a dare while I was gone for the weekend
I loved being able to watch them swim around. Now that I have Moe the cat, I probably shouldn't get any more fish unless I want trouble!

Fish can be such bullies. My daughter has 20 gal tank in her room. They are fun for the girls to watch at bedtime. Though, it tends to wake them up instead of settle them down.

Fish tanks are great! We used to have a 60 gal salt water mini reef. It was awesome to watch nature in action. We paid for several "meals" for other fish and sea life without knowing it. It really is awesome to see all the things that live in the ocean and watching how they interact with each other.
There is nothing more relaxing than watching fish. ( well other than the obvious )

A fish tank is in our future.

Being a fan of fish and other underwater denizens, I used to keep aquariums when I was little. I would love to own an aquarium again in the future but not now-too many other responsibilities and the costs of maintaining one in Canada are much higher than back in Singapore.

And yes, studies show that watching fish swim in an aquarium can actually relieve stress...It's true! (though the maintainence can be a bit of a hassle at times...)

We had them when I was a kid.......one goldfish and other pond types, one tropical and one tank for the babies since a lot of the mothers would eat them.....we even had a little birthing tank mesh thingy that hooked onto the big one so mothers could have their babies away from the other fish, but then you had to get them out of there or chomp chomp chomp
Course I've often said after meeting a real assclown that I can see now why mother fish eat their young....

We have had a fish tank for years. My favorite fish was this really big Jack Dempsey. He was really pretty......blue, green and black, but mean as hell. He would chase the others around, then act all nicey like and then take a bite at them. I would get the loooooong ol' BBQ fork and stick it in the tank(not the forked end, the wooden handle) and whack him a good 1. He eventually killed all our fish except 1. Then one day we came home from someplace and he was floating at the top DEAD! What goes around comes around I guess.

one of the guys in my lab studies aggression in cichlids....they are some mean mofos!!!!
when he was running behavioral experiments, he would pair a small guy with a large guy....the big one would scare the begeezees outa the little one, would eat all the food before the little guy could even get close to the surface, and would take over the shelter that was in the tank so the little guy would have to hang out at the surface, by the filter all the time.
it was kinda sad for the little guy, but at the end of the experiments both fish had to be sacrificed so the big guy got his in the end

I had a 29 gallon and 55 gallon tanks set up for a while. We always kept locally caught freshwater fish in them. For a while I had largemouth and smallmouth bass, a northern pike about 8" long, numerous crappies and bluegills.... They were a treat to just lie on the couch and observe them.

Nope but I did learn a lot from watching that largemouth bass. They literally inhale their food - they'll swim up behind a minnow or wait in ambush until one gets close enough and then suck it right in.
