Spent a lot of time at CHOP today.
#1 was with Neurology. It was an evaluation of her brain function because she has had some seizure like activity since about 1 year old. We were not sure it was due to her drug overdose at 7 months old, or unrelated.
THe EEG on her was completely NEGATIVE. Her seizure like activity is normal due to her developmental delays, completely unrelated to any problem in the brain.
As far as the overdose and brain affect. It would be impossible to tell even if they worked her up for it. It would solve nothing and we could not do anything about it anyway if there was any brain damage. That being said, the brain is functioning normally as it should which is most important.
So I can scratch Neurology of her list of specialists now. Started at 12. Hacked of another so now down to 10.
We likely never need to see neurology again.

#2-Abby had an endoscopy to see how here bowels are doing. The doc said that they are the best they have ever looked. It appears as though the medicine regimine she is on is working. We are almost off of her steroids that she has been on for 28 months. Once she gest off of that we will have a big sit down with all of the major players in Abby's care and come up with a plan for the next step. (this came right from the doc's mouth!!!) It looks like we are moving ahead with this part of her life too. Albeit she will be struggling with bowel issues her whole life, at least we now seem to be on a steady course right now. It seems as though the docs have finally figured her out. We need to have so many docs involved because many kids Abby's age do not have so many complex issues to consider. Most of the kids the GI docs treat just struggle with bowel issues alone. Since Abby has so many other complexities we need several people in the same room to kind of come up with a plan. There was one happy dad at CHOP today.

A side note, Abby has to be the most popular kid at CHOP. She walked into the surgery dept today and everyone of the staff knew her and she was greeting all of her adoring fans. People in the waiting room were just laughing at Abby as she was smiling, clapping, laughing and greeting all of the staff.
She is so good with all the staff, they all love taking care of her. She has the most magnetic personality of our kids. She brings people into her inner circle and they do not want to leave.
Abby was a real trooper today. She was not allowed to eat for 24 plus hours and stayed pretty cool all day. She woke up from her anesthesia pretty much unaffected (of course Dad was there to pick her right up when she woke up) and was able to go home very quickly.

Isn't it funny, and good, that the kids who have to struggle to live with/overcome something are usually so outgoing, such winners? It's like they got an extra dose of the good stuff, to get them through everything they have to deal with.

I'm so happy to hear something good's on the horizon for our little sweetheart. Give her a from Laurie.
