How do you prefer to run?
I like both. Although on the long runs (10+) I think its better with a partner or group.

Not so much a group but 1 or too others once in a while is nice for long runs. Pretty much tough given a choice, I will go solo.

I most enjoy having a running partner of similar pace to run with but have no problem running alone. I have ran with groups on occasion but enjoy a single partner more.

I miss running with Running Brewer. He and I ran close to the same pace, and it kept us both in check. I tend to push it too hard when I run on my own, and it is nice to have someone to talk to.

Are you saying I held you back???
I haven't done a group run, but running with a partner was always nice. However, running solo creates mental toughness(for lack of a better term). It takes more motivation to get out the door when there isn't anyone counting on you.

There is one guy in town that I have run with a few times, he is very nice, but quite a bit slower than me. (not that I'm blazing or anything)
I do probably 99% of my runs alone. I have NEVER ran with a partner or a group on a long run. I keep hearing it's wonderful, but I have to gut it out alone.

I was just thinking about this today, Cappy, while running at the gym! I remember someone's post remarking that it was astounding to him that some people prefer to run indoors than out (I'm definitely not that person), and was thinking that at the gym you can get a bit competitive with someone other than yourself! I do like that and my recent times have really, really shown this.
I wish I had a running partner occasionally with whom to run. The closest running club is 45 minutes away and I'm seriously contemplating driving the distance once a week to run with them. Just for the running camaraderie.
I run really well on my own because that's how I train, completely solo. I agree there's a mental toughness you develop, BUT, for me, running alone lacks the competitive edge. I would love to run with someone who is slightly faster than me to make me move it. With someone else, I'd break out of that rhythm I frequently get into. Also, my husband would appreciate it because I babble about running way too much and this would take some of the blah, blah, blah about running out of our (read "my" because he sleeps with his eyes open when I start) conversations. That's just another reason it's great to have this board to log onto!

I do all my runs alone. It would be nice to run with someone once or twice a week, and with a group for long runs due to all the aforementioned reasons. The local running groups though, start way too late for me.

I love the solitude of running on my own. It is either my quiet thinking time, or my just not thinking about anything time.
That said, I used to have a running buddy and enjoyed my runs with her, but since she got injured I haven't felt overly inclined to go find another.

99% of my mileage is logged solo.

i always go it alone. it would be nice to do a long one with someone else, just for the monotony of it and to gauge my pace against someone elses.
the only running group here is a bunch of hardcore runners (a few ultra runners and some doctors and lifetime runners). they've invited me to join them on weekends but i'm like, - nah, don't think so.
i'm not worthy.

There's a small group that runs outside during warm weather at the gym I go to. I ran with them when I first started back into it 14 yrs ago. Last several years have all been solo though due to pace differences. Once in a while I'll run with them for a half mile or so for warm up. I just like the solitude of running alone, don't want to have to make conversation.

99% of the time I am alone. If I had my choice I would run with one or two others, no more. I dont mind running alone though. I think Im just used to it. Im too shy to join a running club, but the thought has crossed my mind....
